This collection of documents and photos appears to have come from the files or archives of the Upton Grey church or private files passed down from one vicar to the next. The photos and documents themselves are a miscellany with dates from around 1870 to the 1990s. They include a very important collection of 15 very early photographs of the church and the village dated to around 1880, which provide an invaluable record of the village at that time and are the oldest photos we have of the village. The main file is a picture of one of these old photos (ref A-1) in its cardboard mounting (which may be original).
Additional File 1 (AF1) lists all the documents and photos in the collection, cross-referencing where they have been uploaded as separate Entries in the WOTP database. More work is still in progress to review, research and upload some of the documents and photos.
AF2 provides some additional notes on the collection and its provenance, including some detailed notes on the 15 very early photographs. On the Photo Gallery page of the WOTP website we have arranged some of these pictures to give an impression of an ‘1880 tour’ of the village. Also see AF3 below.
AF3 is a slideshow of 10 of the photographs, in .mov format.
